Age of Darkness: Final Stand is a survival RTS where you must survive against hordes of undead enemies, and a living Fog of War called “The Veil”. This was the first major title that Playside launched that is hosted on Steam. My role on this project was very involved - from guiding the engineering team, to mentoring staff on using UE4, as well as a heavy involvement in the development process. The goal of this product was to make the player feel as if they’re surrounded - like their one keep in the center of the map was their only shining light. To achieve this feeling, we needed monsters. Lots of monsters. 60,000+ on screen at once to be exact.
This game was a technical masterpiece and a massive learning curve. To nail the RTS mechanics, a lot of research and referencing was involved. In the end the product was something to be proud of, the video below speaks for itself.
