Company:
Playside Studios (Contracted to Metro Trains).
Engine:
Unity.
Description:
Dumb Ways to Die 2 was the first major Unity project that I was assigned to at Playside, for this project we were given the task of recreating the original DW2 Flash game in Unity (allowing us to do updates). This work would be released as an update over the original app, so it has to look EXACTLY the same.
This project was a chance for me to learn Unity, as I had little experience going into it, and also taught me how to structure code in a way that others will understand. I was one of the sole engineers for the project’s duration - it was quite challenging to recreate every aspect of the game and release it to the millions of people that were actively playing it.
Responsibilities:
Research and work independently
Assisted in maintaining save data
Implement memory optimisation techniques
Working with SVG animation pipeline
Manually convert Flash to Unity
Recreate most of the original 50+ Minigames
Create “Overworld” map level
UI programming
